Chirstmas Project

Last night as I was counting sheep I thought of a cute little Christmas project to do with the kids. If you have any old puzzles with smaller pieces you don't want any more I would love to use them for this project. If you know of anybody who wants to get rid of puzzles with small pieces please send them my way.

Buddy Rooms

On Friday we got together with our buddy room A3 and read them our fractured fairytale. If you don't know what a fracture fairytale is ask your student. If they don't know then that means they were not listening in class. :)
Everyone had a great time.

The only homework the kids have this week is to read 20 minutes every day for a grand total of 120 minutes.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Homework:

Read 20 minutes
Math sheet
Study spelling words—test tomorrow!!

The weather is getting cold, windy and rainy. Please make sure students have a warm jacket or coat.

My electric pencil sharpener is not doing well. If your students have a hand held manual sharpener they can bring to school to use that would be very helpful. I am looking in to getting a new sharpener.

Have a great weekend!

All in a Days Work

First of all I want to say that I am sorry I end up posting so late. If I have pictures to share then I have to post between 7:30-8:30pm. That's when Abby goes to bed. Adding to a blog with an 11 month crawling around is no easy task. So just know to check later in the evening.

The Keizer Rotary came and gave the 4th graders Dictionaries. I had students keep them at school for now because I have some activities I want to do with dictionaries while everyone has one.
Today the class was working really hard during reading. There are three groups reading three different books. I based these groups on reading level. I tried having the whole class read one book, but it was too hard for some, just right for others, and too easy for the rest. So one group is reading Shiloh Season, which is a great book that is a trilogy. Another group is reading about Louis Braille, and my last group is reading A Year Down Yonder. They all seem to be enjoying the books.

Stay tuned for more fun times in C3
Oh...I almost forgot! I sent home conference slips confirming dates and times. Please send these back ASAP. If I need to move people around I want to do it with plenty of time.
Thank you!

C-3 News

Book orders:
Book orders are due November 14th. There are a number of great deals in the order forms, and some fantastic holiday books. A few order forms have come in and parents are ordering books for Christmas presents. What an affordable way to get kids reading!

C-3 Lessons:

Reading: Ask your student what book they are reading during reading time. Have them tell you about it.
Vocabulary seems to be an issue for most students. We have been working on synonyms, and antonyms. I am trying to find some websites that you can use at home too. I will keep you posted.

Writing: We will begin some persuasive letter writing, hopefully by Friday.

Math: We are diving into multiplication, and division. I want to get multiplication steady then move on to division. Some Geometry will also be thrown in. Students will be tested on their 2's this Friday the 14th. I sent home flash cards so hopefully they got home and are being practiced.

Science: We are continuing living things. Mr. Etchemendy will be coming in to teach a Science work sample lesson. We will also be working on classifying living things.

Social Studies: We are finishing up with Government (took longer than I thought), and will be moving into Lewis and Clark soon.

Homework:
I have noticed a huge drop in the amount of students bring back homework. Not only is homework a chance to teach responsibility, its also great practice for material we have covered in class. Please make sure to set aside homework time, and remind students to put their materials in their back packs.

If you are able to donate candy for the Friday parties we would greatly appreciate it. I know many of you just bought stuff for our Harvest party, so if you did not get a chance to donate for the party this is your chance to donate for the Friday Parties!

Math Whizz:
I am still learning the ins and outs of Math Whizz. If you have questions please ask and I will find the answer for you. The kids who have Math Whizz love it. I try to give them time during school to use it, but its not a lot of time. Please set aside time at home to use this great program. Many kids who do not have Math Whizz are very interested in it. I believe (don't quote me on this) there will be a time in January when kids will have a chance to sign up.

A long Weekend

Just a reminder we have no school the 10th or the 11th. Students are to read for 60minutes during their long weekend. Many students missed Friday party because Reading Slips and Homework were not turned in on time. This is the time of year to really watch your students and make sure they are still on top of their game.

Have a great weekend!
